Derek Carr and the Raiders are done negotiating, and have finalized a contract extension that makes the quarterback the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to NFL Media.
The deal is a reported 5-year extension worth $125 million, which pays him about $25 million per year. That deal beats out the previous high given to Colts QB Andrew Luck, who gets paid $24.6 million per year. Following him are Carson Palmer'($24.35 million), Drew Brees ($24.25 million) and Kirk Cousins ($23.9 million).
His brother, Christopher Johnson, will take over as chairman and CEO of the Jets during the three-year appointment.
The New York Jets have been an integral part of our family since 2000, but this is a unique opportunity for Woody, Christopher Johnson said in a statement. His patriotism and commitment to our country have always been a passion of his.
Over the years, we have learned that ownership of the New York Jets is a special responsibility. Personally, if Woody is nominated and confirmed, I would be honored to oversee the organization, continuing to build a team on and off the field that our fans are proud of and deserve.
Woody Johnson was rumored to be the leading candidate for the U.S. ambassador to the UK position back in December although he initially supported Jeb Bush in the election, according to the New York Post.
